The Municipality of Calheta is preparing to stay in ‘Christmas mode’. For this purpose, several events are scheduled, and the ‘start’ of the festivities of this block is marked next Thursday, December 6, with the inauguration of the crib council.
The crib, which is being set up next to the “Forno da Cal” garden, in Vila da Calheta, will be inaugurated next Thursday at 7:30 p.m. That same day will also take place the official opening of the Christmas lighting of the Municipality, not forgetting the sharing of the traditional delicacies of this time, such as the famous broas and homemade liqueurs, always present at this event.
Shortly thereafter, on December 8th, at 9pm, the CDR Prazeres Pavilion will hold the “V Natal Concert”, with the performance of the Classical Orchestra of Madeira. To emphasize this year the presence of the silver of the house with the natural tenor of the Arco da Calheta, Alberto Sousa and the natural soloist of Calheta, Cláudia Sardinha, and the entrance to this concert is free.
And as it has happened in recent years, the Municipality will promote on the 21st, the “Market Night – Calheta” that will take place in the Supply Market, in the parish of the Prazeres. The opening will be at 6:00 pm with the agricultural market and the animation will be scheduled starting at 9:00 pm, where several groups will perform, and the head of the poster is the Portuguese artist already known “Quim Barreiros”, promising a lively night.
In this event you can enjoy the typical traditional “baby food” of the “Madeiran party”, such as the cake of the caco, the poncha and the sandwiches made with the tasty meat of vinha-d’alhos.
