Everything is set for what is one of the most awaited events for the population of Paul do Mar: the Feast of Santo Amaro.
After the Festival of Lapa, which is held every year in July, this is the festival that brings ‘to land’ many of the pauleiros who dedicate their life to the sea.
Proof of this is the fact that this party is, this year, run by four migrant fishermen. Duarte dos Santos, Michael Balelo, Roger Bigaignon and José Sidónio Moniz are responsible for the total financing of this party, which this year promises to be a breakthrough.
There are four days of celebration, which begins next Saturday and ends only on Tuesday, the day of Santo Amaro.
Several months ago, with the help of the volunteers Tamara Fernandez, Ester Balelo and Antoinette Moniz, the poster was completed on Monday, evidencing a clear bet on the diversity of artists.
Maktub, who is collaborating in the organization of the event, is proud to participate in the preparation of this religious festival, especially for checking the commitment of the party-goers who this year wanted to extend the event to four days and, for the first time, collaborate in Christmas lights. “The party planners wanted to do something different and since December they have provided a modern lighting for the parish, also putting some figures,” said Fábio Afonso, who took the opportunity to invite all Madeira to participate in this party.
In addition to a lot of guaranteed animation, whose program is known in this article, the event will have tents of food and drinks and with four religious celebrations. On Saturday, there will still be a firework display.
The church will be decorated with a great variety of flowers.
Paul do Mar thus completes the Christmas season with this great feast of Santo Amaro, a date that is also used for ‘sweeping the cupboards’, putting on the table delicacies identical to those of Christmas Day.
