In keeping with tradition, the Monte Palace Madeira garden in the Monte, marks the Day of the Autonomous Region of Madeira and the Madeiran Communities (July 1) allowing free entry of residents in the Region, throughout the day.
National and internationally awarded with distinctions such as Best Places To Visit, Tripadvisor – “Certificate of Excellence”, European Best Destinations, one of the thirteen most beautiful botanical gardens in the world, according to the renowned magazine Condé Nast Traveler, among others,
“With the first objective of being a universal space, recovering the historical grace of the Palace and romantic gardens, as well as the creation of international areas, such as gardens of Oriental inspiration. Today, this space is recognized by the World and considered as one of the main references of the island of Madeira.
Located in a privileged position, on the outskirts of Funchal, it offers a “multidisciplinary visit”, where “the harmony of Nature crosses with art and culture”. Rich in luxuriant vegetation, this garden boasts South African proteas and cicas, azaleas of Belgium, heather from Scotland, dryings of America, acacias of Australia, ancient olive trees of the Alqueva zone, among many other species.
In the eastern part, it has a space dedicated to the endemic Madeiran flora, the Laurissilva, a forest classified by UNESCO as World Natural Heritage.
Its generous area allows the visitor to have the privilege of enjoying the largest private collection of tiles in the country; sculptures from the four corners of the world; a collection of coats of arms that embellish the countless avenues; windows Manueline; an important collection of porcelains; to which are added the collections exhibited at the Monte Palace Museum, a museum equipment inserted in the Garden and open to the public since 2004, and which presents on the ground floor a collection of minerals and gems, mostly from Brazil, South Africa, Argentina , North America, Zambia, Peru and Portugal.
And, on the top two floors, a contemporary Zimbabwe sculpture collection of recognized historical and artistic interest.

It should be stressed that residents of the Region must provide a proof of residence at the entrance to the garden, so that it can be free of charge. Comfortable footwear is recommended. Opening hours are from 9:30 am to 6:00 pm.
