PATIENTS IN QUARANTEEN IN FUNCHAL HOSPITAL DUE TO BACTERIA

The Health Service of the Autonomous Region of Madeira (SESARAM EPE) reports that “the Klebsiella pneumoniae Carbapenemase (KPC) bacterium was identified at the Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça in a patient with chronic, immunodepressed pathology with a history of prolonged hospitalization at different outpatient units of the Autonomous Region of Madeira “.
According to a note sent to the newsroom, SESARAM states that “at the Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital, she was admitted to the Orthopedics and Nephrology Services, on the 8th (west) and 6th (nascent) floors. (Orthopedics, Nephrology and Urology) During this period, all the patients hospitalized in the three referenced services will be screened for a total of 58 patients. ”
According to the statement, “it has been decided that there are no new admissions of patients on the floors concerned and the recommended infection control and safety measures are being implemented in order to minimize the effects of this situation on hospitalized users and professionals” .
SESARAM further informs that “in compliance with the recommended safety measures, visits to patients will be limited to one patient per patient, with a maximum of 30 minutes. The safety of professionals and visitors is safeguarded by compliance with measures protection. ”
In recent years several cases of KPC have occurred in the country. Until now, SESARAM has never registered any bacteria of this strain.
